Lancer Double Drabble: "The Asking"

This is from author John Leggett: “It is surely possible to tell a good story with no scene, no setting at all, no indication of where we are, just as we might expect to enjoy a play presented on a bare stage. If the characters and narrative are strong enough, they will hold our interest without any background.” This is a bit easier with fanfiction, we know the characters—but the thought of trying to put the characters into a setting without actually describing it was intriguing. Here’s my go. A double-drabble at 200 words plus title.
The Asking
“You snore.”
“Scott Lancer, I do not.”
“You were sleeping and there was noise, snoring noise.”
“I was just resting my eyes. And I do not snore.”
“Well, not much really. On a scale of one to ten, I’d mark you down for a two. That’s not so bad. Johnny’s an eight. Murdoch’s a twelve.”
“Well, what about you?”
“I’ve never had any complaints.”
“And just who isn’t complaining?”
“I thought we were talking about you.”
“I’d rather talk about you.”
“It’s good to find out these things ahead of time.”
“Ahead of what…?”
“Ahead of the asking. So what else are you hiding, besides the fact you snore?”
“Oh no you don’t. What do you mean by ‘asking’?”
“Would you?”
“Depends.”
“Are you going to make me get down on one knee? A little difficult in my current position.”
“I’ve never wanted a man at my feet.”
“Lucky me. What does your answer depend on?”
“I guess it depends on if you can put up with my snoring.”
“I can do that.”
“What about my father?”
“Now you might be asking too much. Just how much does he snore?”
“Go ahead.”
”Go ahead?”
“Ask.”
“Will you?”
“Yes.”
